![]() Associate of Applied Science Degree The Associate of Applied Science in Radiologic Sciences (AAS) degree is designed to prepare graduates for the practice of radiography in the rapidly changing health care environment. The two-year program provides students with the general academic and technical foundations necessary to competently perform a wide range of radiologic procedures. After successful completion of all program requirements, students may be qualified to take the national certification examination administered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). Those who pass the examination are issued certificates which confer the right to use the title "Registered Technologist" and its abbreviation "R.T. (ARRT)" after their names. Additionally, graduates may be eligible for certification by the state of Texas as a medical Radiologic Technologist. Bachelor of Science Degree The Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Science (BSRS) degree is available through distance education delivery methods. This program provides lateral and upward mobility for technologists who are unable to attend college on a full-time basis. Registered technologists may earn up to 43 semester credit hours of advanced standing. The program offers a variety of subject content including courses designed to prepare students for advanced level examinations in specific modalities. All courses in the BSRS program are offered as Internet courses. Course content is based on standard textbooks and the on-line course instructions guide students through every step of the material. Each course is divided into several individual units with accompanying unit exams that may be submitted to MSU for grading. Graded exams are returned to the student with pertinent comments and recommendations for further study. Specific instructions for the final examinations will be provided with each course syllabus. Students are allowed to test at a proctored site of their choosing within a timeframe acceptable to the professor.
Master of Science Degree Midwestern State University (MSU) offers the first discipline-specific Master of Science Radiologic Science (MSRS) degree of its kind in the United States. It includes three separate majors: Radiologic Administration, Radiologic Education, and Radiologist Assistant. The MSRS program features a holistic approach to graduate education with options for specialization, providing a natural transition for working technologists interested in advancing to higher levels of administration, education, or advanced clinical practice. This program provides opportunities for radiologic science professionals interested in being radiologic administrators, radiologic educators, and radiologist assistants regardless of their location. The unique “hybrid distance education” curriculum design permits working professionals to complete the degree with minimal on-campus requirements while preserving the benefits of face-to-face contact with fellow graduate students. Courses offered during fall and spring semesters, generally require only two visits to MSU. Summer courses include assignments to be completed before and after a single visit to campus. Most of the course requirements are completed independently and coordinated electronically. A limited number of masters level courses are available online.
