Associate of Applied Science Degree In Radiologic Sciences

 ADMISSION CRITERIA

**YOU MUST APPLY TO MSU & TO THE RADIOLOGY PROGRAM**
Applications to the Radiography program are accepted ONLY between January 1st and March 1st. Applications received before or after this time period will not be considered.


To be considered for admission, the following basic requirements must be met:

  1. Eligibility for admission to MSU.  Click on the link below:

  2. Application for admission to the Radiologic Sciences Program and a student copy of your most recent transcripts
  3. A cumulative GPA of 2.0 or greater on all college-level work and be in good academic standing.
  4. Successful completion (grade of C or higher) in BIOL 1134 and BIOL 1234 prior to consideration for admission to the radiologic science professional courses (fall semester)
  5. Complete all remediation requirements.


ADMISSION PROCEDURES FOR THE AAS PROGRAM

The professional phase of the AAS program begins in the fall semester. 
Applications are accepted ONLY between January 1st and March 1st. Applications received before or after this time period will not be considered.  Due to the limited availability of clinical sites, qualified applicants will be accepted only until the class is full.


ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
(Summer Semester)

Prior to enrollment in RADS 2114 Clinical Education I, the student must provide documentation of:

  1. Program approved student liability insurance
  2. Completion of physical examination
  3. Health insurance
  4. Compliance with state or program mandated immunizations
  5. CPR certification

  Applicants to this program must understand the physical, behavioral, and social skills necessary to function as  a radiographer in many facilities.  Please read the following carefully:

STANDARDS FOR THE RADIOGRAPHER

Employment Qualifiers:

    • Must be free from contagious diseases and chemical dependence.
    • Must be able to perform all functions and tasks required of a radiographer.
    • Must not have been convicted of a felony, without restoration of his or her civil rights.

Visual Observation:

Visual acuity must be sufficient and adequate to enable the radiographer to:

    • View radiographs to determine quality and identify anatomy.
    • Observe patients’ condition.
    • Read control panels, technique charts, and other pertinent materials for patient care and professional practice.

Motor Functions:

Motor functions must be sufficient to enable the radiographer to:

Stand unassisted for  periods of time up to several hours.

Assist patients in and out of wheelchairs and on and off stretchers or tables.

Lift and handle radiographic equipment and tools.

Manipulate radiographic equipment.

Assist patients in emergency situations.

Communication Skills:

The radiographer shall possess sufficient communication skills adequate for receiving and transmitting  information to patients, health care personnel and others.

Behavioral and Social Skills:

Behavioral and social skills must be sufficient to enable the student to conduct him or herself appropriately and professionally in the college and clinical settings.
