Admission Requirements

BSN-Prelicensure

  1. Submit an MSU application to the university (Application fee $25).
  2. Request official transcripts from each university/college attended be mailed to MSU's Admissions office.
  3. Submit a separate Nursing application (no fee required) and unofficial transcripts to the Wilson School of Nursing.
    • Fall Application Deadline: February 1 - February 28 
    • Spring Application Deadline: October 1 - October 31
  4. Submit NET or HOBET scores via postal mail or e-mail by appropriate deadline to the Wilson School of Nursing.
    • Contact MSU Testing Service for test dates.
    • NET exam may be taken at test sites other than MSU and submitted with application.
  5. Must have a grade of “C” or higher on all science courses.
  6. The following courses are core courses (NOT required before admission into nursing program) required for the BSN degree before graduation:
      •  Statistics •  Intro to Computers
      •  Humanities (6 hrs)** •  General or Macro Economics
      •  American Gov’t (TX) •  Speech
      •  American Government •  Fine Arts (Music, Art, Theater; 3 hrs)
      •  American History to 1865 •  American History since 1865
      •  Two (2) Physical Education activity courses
  7. Must have completed the following courses prior to beginning nursing program: (May apply to program while enrolled in prerequisite courses).
      •  Anatomy and Physiology •  Anatomy and Physiology II
      •  Intro to Sociology •  Microbiology
      •  Rhetoric and Composition I •  Rhetoric and Composition II
      •  College Level Math •  Chemistry
      •  Developmental Psychology •  General Psychology
  8. Must provide documentation for the following requirements prior to beginning the clinical courses (2nd Semester in program):
    1. Completion of a physical examination
    2. Health Insurance coverage
    3. Nursing student liability insurance
    4. Either Health Care Provider CPR certification or American Red Cross CPR-PR certification
    5. FBI Criminal Background Check
    6. Ten Panel Urine Drug Screen
    7. Compliance with state of Texas-mandated and program immunizations
      Note: You will be required to show proof of at least the first Hepatitis B immunization in order to progress in nursing courses.

      ** Humanities = Humanities, Western Civilization, English Literature, Philosophy, or a 2 semester sequence of a foreign language.

      NOTE: ADMISSION TO NURS 3212: Family Health Assessment (SPRING OR FALL ONLY) CONSTITUTES FORMAL ADMISSION TO THE WILSON SCHOOL OF NURSING PROGRAM.

ADMISSIONS PROCESS

Since the number of applicants usually exceeds the number of students allowed for admission, all applicants will be awarded points for ranking purposes. The Wilson School of Nursing Admission’s Committee will evaluate all applications and rank them according to the criteria point values listed below. Applicants will be accepted into the program as ranked for admission and according to the number of clinical positions available. Concerning applicants with a tie score, the higher science GPA will receive the higher ranking position.
